ABSTRACT

I propose here that the art of field attunement resides in sensing the ‘music’ of the coaching session and noticing its echoes and resonances in me as well as checking its echoes and resonances in my client (whether an individual or a group). Speaking from a coach perspective, this is music I ‘hear’, and sing along to (either as a melody or in harmony or cacophony), or music I move to as in a dance. To risk stretching the musical metaphor: am I experiencing myself as if in a duet – however harmonious or cacophonous – or in a song-and-dance musical?
