ABSTRACT

Program rules are relevant if therapists are delivering Changing Lives and Changing Outcomes (CLCO) in a group format. It is imperative that criminal justice involved persons with mental illness (CJ-PMI) adhere to a set of basic guidelines and rules. It should be noted that a primary goal of this program is that CJ-PMI will accept responsibility for managing their illness and remaining crime-free, and each of these rules requires the responsible commitment of CJ-PMI. Violation of these rules continues a lifestyle of irresponsibleness and lack of commitment to recovery. The rules are: confidentiality, attendance, promptness, participation, respect, homework, and rules to be determined by participants. Each group member is expected to treat one another with respect. Remind participants that there are homework assignments for most sessions. They are responsible for completing all homework assignments. Rule violations should be viewed as criminalness and dealt with therapeutically in the context of treatment sessions.
