ABSTRACT
The first approximation technique discussed here, and one of the earliest of such, is interpolation. The word was coined by Wallis in 1656 [8] and there were already earlier attempts at similar techniques. An interpolation method, nowadays called Newton’s interpolation, appeared in Newton’s classical book in 1687 [4], and is the subject of the first section.
