ABSTRACT

Coastal Zone Management (CZM) aims to determine the principals of planning and programming and their application techniques in coastal areas with high participation and integrated effort. This chapter examines Coastal Zone Management in Turkey. In Turkey, planning, application and monitoring of the plans and furnishing of the public services have not been handled in an integrated management strategy. The law and regulations related to CZM have been examined through their principals, content and sufficiency and the difficulties in application and the results achieved from the applications have been evaluated. The Law of Environment and The Law of Tourism cannot completely satisfy the demands of integrated coastal zone management issue. In Turkey, there is no national or regional management plan. An institutional organisation dealing with coastal zone management has to take its place in administrative mechanism. An organisation of law has to be formed which includes all the criteria necessary for Coastal Zone Management.
