ABSTRACT

This chapter offers interpretations of the empirical results of the tests of various specifications of a multiple regression model using a design and a database judged uniquely appropriate to the task. The analytical steps taken in the chapter describe a deliberate path. First, a basic regression model is developed and the zero-order correlations among predictor variables are analyzed in the light of the testable hypotheses. Next, robust and EWLS regression models are tested. The results of these tests are probed further using an elaboration process whose objective is to determine the robustness of a given model as its key components are added and subtracted systematically. Finally, in order to exploit the availability of other relevant influences on new firm whose structure could not be accommodated in the original model, the results of a subset of models are reported and interpreted.
