ABSTRACT

Lenin's literary career began in the spring or summer of 1893 at which time he wrote a book review criticizing a populist agricultural writer. The debut of Lenin's speaking career can be dated quite accurately – he gave his first lectures in the summer of 1893. Thus, Lenin graduated to the position of teacher and agitator during the second half of 1893, when he was a little over twenty-three years of age. Now that Lenin had become a full-fledged revolutionary, he decided that Samara was not the best place for his work and resolved to go to the capital. Early in October Lenin travelled to Vladimir to establish contact with his imprisoned mentor through Fedosseyev's girl friend. In December, 1893 Lenin went to Moscow to spend Christmas with his family. Lenin now was ready to engage in his first battle, not against capitalism or aristocracy, but against his fellow socialists.
