ABSTRACT

To obtain bread, which was becoming ever more scarce, Lenin increased reprisals directed at the peasants. After an abortive peasant uprising in Pensa during August, Lenin instituted a merciless terror against the kulaks, priests, and White guards. On August 30th, one of the chief terrorists, M. S. Uritsky, was killed by Leonid Kannegiesser, a gifted poet. The day of Uritsky's murder, Lenin was shot by a Social Revolutionary, a twenty-eight year old girl named Fanya Kaplan, who under the Tsar had been punished by eleven years of hard labour. At that time, Lenin had discontinued his walks in the streets. At long last, more competent doctors arrived. Professor Mints, a surgeon, did not believe there was just one wound and examined Lenin carefully. He found the second wound on the side of the neck. Within four days after the attempt, as it became apparent that Lenin would survive, the Vcheka sentenced Kaplan to death.
