ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the distinguished scholars in ecological economics to found theoretical contributions of the distinguished scholars on extensive empirical projects. John Elkington is well known for having developed the concept of the triple bottom line. The triple bottom line refers to the relationship between economic prosperity, environmental quality and social justice. In Cannibals with Forks he explores several global trends that contribute to growing emphasis on social and ecological values on behalf of short-term profitability and economic growth. Elkington gives concrete examples of how the objective of sustainable development has the potential to change economic theory and practice. The concept is currently assimilated within academic research as well as in business administration and entrepreneurship. The triple bottom line states that corporate responsibility is not only related to economic values, but includes contributions to ecological sustainability and social justice as well.
