ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the contributions from Ross Jackson and institutional change. It argues necessity of new laws, and reasons for a general implementation of citizen's income. Jackson announces a new economy based on an exciting combination of experiences from international financial world and spiritual experiences with Indian gurus and Western mystics. He gives a thorough analysis of the shortcomings of neo-liberal economics combined with visionary solutions based on the experiences of the establishment and development of networks of eco-villages worldwide. Jackson's combination of global finance and Gaia Trust represents an impressive balancing act. It is not unusual that profit-maximizing financiers use a portion of the profits on philanthropic projects to decorate the facade and to contribute to positive reputation building. Jackson differs from this dominant trend and instead uses financial institutions to create social change. In Occupy World Street Jackson presents a proposal for how "the Gaian world order" could be implemented by establishing new economic and political institutions.
