ABSTRACT

It is important to stay observant and to be aware of the dangers surrounding us to help safeguard children. This chapter will discuss the Prevent duty guidance and the policies and procedures in place to ensure children are safe. The Prevent duty guidance identifies some of the risks imposed on young children, especially regarding extremism and violence from certain groups. It explains what practitioners need to do if they have a concern. It expands on the legislation surrounding safeguarding and protecting children. The Channel awareness guidance offers early intervention and support to keep children safe from extremism and violence. Responsibilities of the Early Years practitioner include having a clear understanding regarding what to do if a child is at risk from radicalisation or exploitation.
