ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents the mechanism of shallow slope failure and various techniques to repair the failed slope. It describes the generation and recycling of plastic waste and the corresponding environmental impacts. The book reviews the manufacturing method, physical properties, strength and modulus of recycled plastic pins (RPP) for structural applications and for slope stabilisation. It provides an experimental study to determine the physical properties of RPPs with different loading rates. The book introduces the design steps and compares the finite element method with the limit equilibrium method. It discusses the construction technique, the equipment suitable for construction, potential challenges, and special installation techniques. The book also presents a comprehensive and easy-to-use design method which will help both the research community and professional geotechnical engineers to design their slope stabilisation/repair solutions using RPPs.
