To make sure that evaluation is conducted successfully, people occasionally need to sacrifice a few minutes of workshop time at the outset to ensure participants complete the pre-test. This chapter presents a sample of group guidelines and facilitators should allow the group to add or subtract as they see fit. It begins with a question that focuses on childhoods and then one that focuses on high school and finishes with today. The entire exercise generally takes much longer than the time allotted in the Faith Zone workshops, but in smaller doses, it can be an effective tool for developing and communicating a personal narrative. The chapter recommends using "I" statements whenever possible. Trainers must always be present. If they start to disengage from the conversation, people can read that as being disinterested or disrespectful. Trainers should also monitor their participation and adjust accordingly by moving in and moving out.
