ABSTRACT

This chapter argues young bisexual women are invisibilized and negated through misrecognition as bisexual in some contexts of school culture. While values of inclusiveness may be apparent in school Mission Statements and policies, these values may not be actively supported by discriminatory attitudes and practices of some non-bisexual staff and students. Participants’ experiences of these practices provide evidence indicating how a non-inclusive school culture may compromise the physical and emotional safety of young bisexual women at school.
