ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the history of creativity in education and the factory model, the link of creativity to economic development towards the fourth revolution and creativity in educational aims as a twenty-first-century skill and the creativity crisis. It also focuses on creativity and early years education, bold beginnings and advocating for creativity in the early years. Regardless of what is known about creativity in research, the fourth revolution, educational aims, and creativity's recognition as a twenty-first-century skill, we are still experiencing what is referred to as the 'creativity crisis'. The Effective Pre-School, Primary and Secondary Education project is a longitudinal study that was conducted between 1997 and 2014. It mapped the progress and development of 3,000 children in various pre-school settings. Learners of all ages have been observed to come alive when their creativity is engaged, no matter the subject.
