ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a successful project to build a very large bridge in Korea. The project is described by a central figure in the project, Dr Soohong Kim. Although technically this was one big project, it was split into a portfolio of three projects to achieve the best possible degree of control. The Incheon Bridge is the Korea's foremost bridge connecting the Incheon International Airport and Songdo International Business District. Its total length is 21.38 km. The Incheon Bridge Project's management resulted in realizing the objectives of the financial covenants in the financing phase and succeeding in non-recourse project financing for the first time in Korea. This also does not mention setting a precedent as a new model and, in the construction phase, the application of a fast-track method brought forward the completion of the phase by 19 months compared with the initial proposal, with no increase in the construction cost, unlike any other projects.
