ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the arguments in the preceding chapters and discusses the implications for comparative studies. It argues that we need to accumulate more systematic analyses of actual distributive patterns in various contexts to deepen our understanding about the actual mechanisms of “power-sharing” and their effects on the durability of authoritarian regimes. In particular, a theory of elite-level agency elaborated in this book can extend the theoretical scope of distributive politics studies. The chapter also discusses the conditions under which the theory becomes more relevant.
