ABSTRACT

154Jets occur from the micro scale up to the large-scale structure of the universe. Liquid jets thus serve as a paradigm for free-surface motion, hydrodynamic instability, and singularity formation leading to drop breakup. In this chapter, the deformation and breakup of conducting drops will be investigated. For the Newtonian will be described by the electrohydrostatic theory, especially with regard to the prediction of the critical point. The non-Newtonian effect on the drop deformation and breakup will be studied for highly conducting drops which become stable in the weak or moderate field strength.
