ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of use of renewable energy in the dairy industry. Energy is an essential input for industrial activities. Energy consumed in dairy's operations is in two major forms: Thermal energy and Electrical. Thermal energy consumption in the form of steam is far greater than the consumption of electrical energy in the form of power. To overcome problem the use of renewable energy has great scope for its commercial use in the dairy processing operations and it is estimated that renewable energy could contribute to at least half of all electric power in each of the large economies by 2050. Renewable energy is that energy which comes from the natural energy flows on earth. Renewable energy is also termed as "green energy", "clean energy", "sustainable energy" and "alternative energy". Renewable energy is one of the most promising and important opportunities for value added products in dairying.
