ABSTRACT

Investment data consist of two series: total investment and investment in machinery and equipment. Data are cross-sectional, annual time-series data from the years 1979 to 1993 for each country. Sectoral level data are collected by the Economic Analysis and Statistics Division of the Directorate for Science, Technology, and Industry of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Secretariat under the name of "Industrial Structure Statistics." The OECD data are divided into two groups according to sources: data collected from the national industrial surveys and data from the national accounts disaggregated by sector. The OECD investment data do not provide enough observations to estimate either a cross-sectional or time-series equation. The production data are taken from the Industrial Structure Statistics of the OECD. The sign of the coefficient is expected to be negative. All the data are sector-specific and in national currencies. The sign of the coefficient is expected to be negative.
