ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on the dynamics and interactions between internal and external actors. It suggests that statebuilding in the Bosnian case has entailed contradictory dynamics of conflict and symbiosis: while the relations between the internal and external statebuilders have been contentious and conflictual. The book provides an in-depth investigation into the contentious episodes in the institutional domain. It demonstrates how international attempts to counter local contention resulted at times in cycles of contention where coercive international measures served to fuel further disquiet and contention. The book traces tangible acts of contention, and explores the symbolic domain that encompasses both material and non-material practices. Empirically, the research has identified how and where local agency operates and the range of contentious techniques through which the externally-led process is mediated.
