ABSTRACT
Students who are successfully persisting through the college experience are generally less at risk than students who are being removed from campus and forced to break what connections they have with a more stabilizing environment. In many cases, staff may be tasked with interacting with a student regularly during the course of their job responsibilities. In other scenarios, repeated interactions can create a drain on staff energy and resources especially if student behaviors do not seem to improve or even worsen. In most cases, students are on an improved trajectory where staff should be watching for setbacks and obstacles to their care plans. Staffs play an important role in the ongoing follow-up with students after a crisis. This chapter shares techniques and strategies to deal with the ongoing management of student behaviors and to encourage student development and growth while being realistic about staff time, energy, and roles.
