ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a five-year case study of one orchestra/school partnership in a large U.S. city. It describes a comprehensive partnership in which a music-based interdisciplinary instructional program provided by a professional orchestra was used to promote learning in music as well as in nonmusic subjects. The results revealed that the teachers and orchestra members, who served as teaching artists, had a generally positive view of their collaborations. The teachers and orchestra musicians also reported personal professional growth as a result of participating in the partnership.
