ABSTRACT

The chapter addresses the interaction between musicians and teachers in creative music-making partnerships in schools. The objective is to shed light upon their verbal communication during process-oriented music performance projects that highlight the pupils’ participation. The findings show that musicians and teachers talk continuously from the beginning of their collaboration until the ensemble’s performance is presented to an audience. The dialogues are characterized by a practical, down-to-earth approach. Open-minded and task-oriented communication between the musicians and the teachers seem to be the essential criteria in developing meaningful and successful musical collaborations.
