ABSTRACT

When you look at the ocean from afar, it is blue, but now that I am standing at the edge of the pier getting ready to jump in, it is green. I can see the sandy seabed 4–5 meters below, and it is like seeing through an old coke bottle – you know, the ones with a green tint. I have done this many times, but still I have to work up the courage to jump in. After all, this is the North Atlantic, and the water is cold (10–11 degrees Centigrade).
