ABSTRACT

With dementia affecting nearly 5.4 million Americans, the United States is urgently seeking cost-saving effective interventions for dementia care. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) has been shown to be an effective dementia intervention worldwide. This chapter provides an overview of CST in the United States. The authors describe the CST’s introduction in the United States by Saint Louis University (SLU) Geriatric Education Center (GEC) by the founders, and highlight adaption and implementation of a comprehensive CST programme at a rural hospital, participant outcomes, and the formation by SLU GEC of a CST training and education team to disseminate CST across the nation.
