ABSTRACT

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) owes its development to the intersection of a growth in interest in positive psychological approaches in dementia care and methodological developments in research that allowed the rigour of the drug trial to be brought to the evaluation of psychosocial interventions. The development and feasibility/piloting phases necessary for the evaluation of a complex intervention such as CST are the focus of this chapter. CST, it is suggested, builds on the best features of Reality Orientation, embedded in a strong person-centred value base, providing a clear structure for working positively with people with dementia.
