ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the individualised and interconnected approach to teacher education, which enables Resource Teachers to advocate in their professional work for equity in a world that is becoming more diverse and complex. The Resource Teacher programme is a two-year part-time postgraduate qualification and consists of several specialist endorsement areas. Experienced teachers can either complete the course as fee-paying students or apply for a scholarship offered by the Ministry of Education. Teachers in the programme also co-construct meaning with other teachers and professionals who are not in the programme, as well as with learners through their practicum field work. The blurring of the boundary between learning and practice locates Resource Teachers within authentic contexts to problem-solve real issues of equity in education. The Resource Teachers in this programme are invested in creating more equitable education systems. Resource Teachers in the programme have a range of background learning experiences.
