ABSTRACT

Felipe Seade is one of the principal artists of the Social Realism artistic movement that had a high tendency in the Uruguayan artistic environment of the 30's, when it started to be defined the perception of the social function of the artist and its plastic application. In the particular case of the muralist production of Seade, it was concluded that his predominant idea was to elaborate a social archetype to show a pictorial creation of the rural Uruguayan character. He favored the reconstruction, conservation and popular dissemination of the community heritage. The compilation all of the data (documents, pictures and ethnographic material) around the past of the artwork, as well as its scientific register, let researchers obtain the necessary information to conduct a correct intervention and design the social use and enjoyment of the place. The most painted topics in the artworks of the social realism were, among others, the representation of the rural family, and the ethnic-social figure.
