ABSTRACT

The approach to document the study of the mural "Allegory to work" was instrumental in the development of the research as it allowed gaining a broader knowledge about the iconographic aspects of the mural and the historical background of the painting. The chapter aims to translate the results of the documentation process carried out on the mural from the standpoint of the scene depicted, its history and location. The work "Allegory to work" by Felipe Seade is located in the hall of the current House of Culture and former drawing room of the Departmental Lyceum of Colonia del Sacramento. The investigation of the bibliography and documentation concludes that Seade's "Allegory to work" is an historic and artistic testimony of the state of Uruguayan society in the early twentieth century. It also portraits the technological and cultural development of the country.
