ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the methodology that was followed and the chromatic data obtained during the colorimetric studies prior to the restoration of Felipe Seade's work "Allegory to work," located in the Cultural Centre of Colonia del Sacramento. In order to calculate the mean colorimetric values and standard deviation, the measurements of each point have been repeated three times. The spectral graphs confirm the results obtained in the colorimetric analysis. The characteristics of the surface of the artwork allowed to perform measurements by contact, avoiding to work in total darkness. The measurement system used in this study is known as chromatic scanning and it consists of the measurement of certain key points from the piece of artwork that have been properly selected. In chromatic scanning the technique known as reflection spectrometry has been used, which, apart from the chromatic coordinates, allows obtaining the spectrum of each one of the key points comprising the scanning.
