ABSTRACT

This chapter presents testing results of the children in reading, writing, and maths, and discusses the information that was collected from the teachers about the children. This information included their academic expectations for the children, their judgements about whether they were a pleasure to teach, whether they had behaviour problems, and whether they were underachieving, as well as information on the range and depth of curriculum coverage in reading, writing, and maths. The classroom teachers and headteachers were also interviewed about their views and practices on parental involvement, multicultural education and anti-racism. The chapter also observed in the classroom, using both continuous observations of children's curriculum experiences over one whole day, and time-sampling observations of children's behaviour throughout the day. Finally, it explains that discussed research was concerned with the factors and variables associated with educational attainment and progress.
