ABSTRACT

In this chapter Mark Doel sets out a clear rationale for including group work as a method we can draw upon. Bringing people together to support one another and learn together has tremendous potential for bringing about positive changes. A skilled group worker can be effective in shaping group dynamics that are positive and constructive. Helping groups of people to help one another can be a fruitful part of social work practice. With practice, social workers can learn how to bring people together effectively and produce positive results in terms of addressing shared problems and circumstances. It is a method that can be used in a variety of contexts and settings and can be used to tackle a wide range of problems and difficulties.
