ABSTRACT
This chapter has a broad focus, exploring how advocacy, rights work and campaigning have an important role to play in complementing other approaches. Donna Baines, Emma Tseris and Fran Waugh set out an informative overview of the key ideas involved and lay the foundations for incorporating this aspect of practice into our professional role set. Traditionally social work has been understood to have an individual casework focus for the most part, but this chapter shows how social work can also usefully operate at a more macro level. In this way social work can play an important role in promoting social justice and helping to address social problems that are so often rooted in relations of discrimination and oppression.
