ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a summary of the key ideas underpinning task-centered practice. This approach has a long and successful track record in social work and, as such, is an approach well worth knowing about. It offers a structured and systematic approach that can be especially helpful in situations characterized by a degree of chaos or disorganization. It involves working in partnership to clarify the tasks that need to be achieved to move from the current situation to the desired set of circumstances – that is, to achieve the identified goals. It is a brief form of intervention focusing on problem-solving activities. It has a strong track record of research to confirm its effectiveness.
