ABSTRACT

This paper proposed the design of a wave-piercing buoy based on a columnar buoy. Six middle pontoons are used in this new type of buoy to obtain a larger wet surface area, which can increase the resistance and resilience of the buoy in the water. The buoy is made of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) to reduce the weight, which can improve its natural frequency to avoid resonance with the waves. This paper also uses the ANSYS-Hydraulic to analyse the performance of different schemes to improve the performance and survivability of buoys.
