ABSTRACT

The wind speed probability distribution is one of the most important wind characteristics for the performance of wind energy conversion systems and for the assessment of wind energy potential. Several kinds of wind speed probability distribution models widely used in wind energy analysis are studied in this paper. The structural form, the estimation method and the simulation approach of different models are introduced. The accuracy and simulation speed are compared using data from four wind sites. The applicability of different models on reliability evaluation of power system including wind energy is verified with the standard IEEE reliability test system (IEEE-RTS79).
