ABSTRACT

Child sexual abuse is usually not a once-off occurrence but rather a process characterized by stages of development. Many survivors have questions surrounding how they could have become entrapped in a sexual abuse process, how this process was maintained and how could they have had more than one perpetrator. These questions can be answered by means of explaining the stages of CSA, by using the psycho-educational model, and then therapeutically unfolding the stages of each survivors CSA process. The first part of this chapter will provide a theoretical description of the stages of CSA followed by a practical section on the therapeutic intervention when working with stages of sexual abuse.
