ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a number of dataset modeled using HGLMs. It also presents the R codes for running the examples, using either the hglm or dhglm package, or both. The hglm package is slightly more user friendly, especially for users acquainted with packages in R that fit linear mixed models. McCullagh and Nelder presented dataset on salamander mating. Three experiments were conducted: two were done with the same salamanders in the summer and autumn and another one in the autumn of the same year using different salamanders. In quality control experiments there is a need to model both the mean and the dispersion. Thus, Nelder and Lee proposed to use joint GLMs for the mean and dispersions. From the mean model treatment and baseline effects are significant. The model checking plots give valuable information here even though the response values are binary.
