ABSTRACT

A spirit of adventure is as much needed in civil air transport as in other directions. This spirit undoubtedly exists among many interested in aviation. It only needs release and opportunity to play its proper part in providing a brilliant future for the air transport industry. The requirements of real progress will not, however, fundamentally change, whatever changes the future may bring in international alignments, economic conceptions or political forms. It may be noted that the Civil Air Transport Board proposed in Part IV, Chapter II, need not always limit its support to British undertakings. It is conceivable that, in view of the international scope of air transport, the future may see operating concerns started by representatives of more than one nation. A glider needs a pilot; structural alterations to the towing aircraft, and a longer taking-off ran than might otherwise be necessary.
