ABSTRACT

During 1931 Imperial airways flew 623,000 miles on the regular subsidised European services and 653,000 miles on the Empire routes. The air route distances over which Imperial Airways operated totalled 7,760 miles; 1,354,000 miles were flown, and 23,480 passengers carried. During 1932 Imperial Airways continued to operate daily air services between London and the Continent and a weekly service between England and India. In May, 1933, Highland Airways Ltd. started a daily service between Inverness, Wick and Kirkwall. The service was well patronised. During the winter the Wick-Kirkwall service operated five times weekly, and the Inverness-Wick service once weekly. Jersey Airways Ltd. started their Portsmouth-Jersey service in December, 1933. This was extended to Southampton in March, 1934, and supplemented by a Heston-Jersey daily service in January, 1934, a twice-weekly service from Jersey to Paris was operated from June to September.
