ABSTRACT

Brain plasticity is the capacity for the brain to change and mould according to life experience. It is the brain's capacity to form new connections between the neurons and to reorganise the neural pathways. A cure implies that, by undertaking either drug treatment, surgery or behavioural treatment, condition no longer exists in a person. The concept of a 'cure' for dyslexia frequently appears in sensationalised headlines in newspapers and other social media. This chapter examines a range of intervention strategies including alternative therapies that parents and dyslexic individuals can turn to for help. For parents of children with dyslexia the array of approaches and theories is confusing and bewildering. A dietary approach to dyslexia intervention is certainly very appealing, add this or that to the diet, remove such and such and hey presto improvements occur, and usually cheaply.
