ABSTRACT

Teachers must determine for themselves the best way to handle these complex issues of school politics. Several things are important to watch for that will help overcome the perils of school politics. While classroom management and discipline are among the most difficult issues teachers face inside the classroom, preoccupation with school politics vies as one of the most difficult aspects of teaching outside the classroom. Discouragement, disillusionment, and burnout may not be caused by students but by the clutter of the politics of the system: problems with administration, angry parents, or even participation in the gossip circles so prevalent in any work situation. Frustration may stem from the seemingly endless changing of curricular demands, testing procedures, and teaching expectations. In life and in teaching there's going to be a lot of criticism that people can either view as a negative thing or something we can turn into a positive. Schyrlet Cameron has learned to use criticism as a self-check.
