ABSTRACT

Mentorship has become recognized in current-day philanthropic circles. This chapter discusses the historic and current research on the many benefits students derive from mentorship. Mentors hold a unique power to transform a student's life. Students pursuing a Masters in Architecture had to attend year round for three years. Wright himself crafted the curriculum with the goal of creating the "architect of the future". Each student experienced a multifaceted learning environment with rigorous designs, critical thinking, and hands on projects. Students had to inhabit a shelter of their own making to experience their own design. All students were required to perform on stage and become adept at expressing themselves artfully. Mentors help pave the way for students' success but can also provide something deeper. A ripple effect is set in motion when students realize they share much more than they initially imagined with this creative and successful adult.
