ABSTRACT

When embarking on the new mentoring adventure and building a collaborative relationship with the teacher, clearly establish your mutual goals from the beginning. The teacher sets the framework for the students, establishes their expectations, and integrates mentors into the class workflow and curriculum. This chapter explains and learns how to create the productive teacher–mentor relationship. It begins by looking at a teacher's life, which is quite different from that of our associates in business. The student can be assigned to build a PowerPoint presentation and an oral defense of her case, project, or research with the above-listed seven standard slides, together with an additional five creative slides of her choosing. The project assignment includes the criteria on which the student evaluates during the competition phase by guest judges. Additionally, the assignment should make clear how important the project is relative to a student's overall class grade. The judging criteria are entirely up to the teacher, with input by the mentor.
