ABSTRACT

Two friends, in an urban setting, set out to guess how many jelly beans are in a jar at the toy store in order to win two free tickets to the All-Star Game. Along the way, one of the friends estimates, while the other counts precisely, how many people are on the bus, the number of cars in the traffic jam, and the cost of items in a store window. Strategies are shared for determining an estimate. Through a fun trip to the toy store, the importance of estimation in everyday life is illustrated with a playful approach.
