ABSTRACT
The 1961-62 Annual Report of Qantas Airways says, inter alia: 'Staff decreased by 283 during the year due mainly to careful economy in the replacement of terminating employees, including 84 retirements. Because of the downturn in traffic and the substantial reduction in the Company's earnings, 69 staff became surplus to requirements and it was unfortunately necessary to retrench them.
