ABSTRACT

The NE wind which was to carry us towards the entrance to Manila Bay 2 did not set in until half past one in the afternoon, when it was so variable in strength and direction that we did not reach the vicinity of the entrance to the bay until night was falling. Having passed very close to Corregidor Island, we then altered course to south, giving La Monja Island a good berth. At eight o’clock, when it was bearing N58°E, one and a half leagues distant, and Caballo Island was bearing E8°N, we altered course to WNW under easy sail. 3
