ABSTRACT

Our position in Port Mulgrave, and the pleasant surroundings will be better shown by the views which accompany this journal than by any description, however detailed and carefully studied for the purpose. 1 Despite the rainy and overcast weather everything indicated a period of fair weather. The harbour was more like a basin, with the natives living nearby in numbers large enough to be studied without fear of disturbing their customs. 2 Finally, water, wood, ballast, fishing and edible plants, all of which we needed, were so close to hand that it would be very little trouble to bring them on board.
