ABSTRACT

The human brain is a most unusual instrument of elegant and as yet unknown capacity. The chapter discusses emotion, relationships, and the emergent mind. The emotion is an important part of thinking. In fact, thinking and emotion cannot be separated. Thinking and emotion together help us to understand and make decisions. Thinking and emotion together help us to understand and make decisions. We now understand that the brain develops in and because of relationships. We are social beings. One of the reasons for our success as a species is that we have learned to pool knowledge. The ability to do so is built into the system. It is important to pay attention to children's emotions and, especially, not to try to talk them out of having them. It is important to honor students' emotions so that they can learn to make better use of them.
