ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows a number of ways in which minority families are similar to the dominant culture or are apart from it. It analysis that minority families may shed light on theories of family interaction and functioning, which often have been developed by researchers in the dominant culture. The book shows the central role of religion in family life and highlights the importance of social class in predicting family behaviour. It discusses factors such as community strength, racial composition, use of language, and social class that are important factors to consider in studying minority families. Having identifiable characteristics which set families apart from the dominant culture was reported. These characteristics are often matters of race, where the minority family is different from the dominant society, even if the dominant group is in a statistical minority.
